LISD Background Check

Hi Hawk Parents,

Below are detailed instructions for completing or updating a volunteer background check. This is REQUIRED if you want to volunteer at any LISD school event or be a chaperone.  We know that things are about to get crazy in the next couple of weeks, so plan to do this now!

Even if you do not have plans to volunteer, please fill out the background check, so that if you change your mind in the future, you will not have to wait for this to go through. Background checks are good for 3 years, so if you completed one for the 2015-16 or 2016-17 school year, you do not have to renew at this time.

The background checks take at least 3 weeks to be processed, so if you need to complete or renew yours, please do so ASAP.  If you have signed up to volunteer for an event, and your background check has not cleared, you WILL NOT be able to help out!

How to get/renew your LISD background check for 2017-18 school year.

1. Go to

2. Click on the “Careers” Tab, then on “Background Check.” Employee Services / Volunteer / Background Check

3. Follow the instructions, which include a link to the TJN Teacher Job Network. You must
login; or if you are doing this for the first time, you must create an account on this page.
4. After you create an account and/or login, you will be logged into the TJN. You then need
to add new application or renew application. Then select “Volunteer/Student Observer.”5. The application process is quite tedious, and asks you questions regarding your address,
high school attended, ID/DL number. It will take you approximately 15-30 minutes to complete. Please make sure you read and answer the questions carefully or your approval could be delayed. When you get to the part of the background check that asks for “Position Information,” please use the blank option and type in “Football Volunteer.”
If you have previously logged into the Teacher Job Network but cannot remember your login or password, go to the TJN home page and select “Recover Account.” They will ask you to enter your SS#, which will retrieve your account. You will need to create a new password and then will be able to login to your account.

If everything is correct, you can submit your application and you will get an email confirmation.

A few things to remember:
* You will need your SS# and Driver’s License # to complete this application.
* Please make sure you hit SUBMIT APPLICATION when you are finished, or it
will not be processed.
* Please DO NOT WAIT until you have signed up to volunteer to do this application. It
is good for three years, so go ahead and complete it now!
* If you sign up to volunteer or chaperone and your background check is not clear,
you WILL NOT be able to fulfill your commitment.

Hebron Parents,

Thank you for working with me as I have tried to get a handle on Criminal Background Checks. Going forward for the rest of the school year, we will steal from band and their procedures for Criminal Background Checks.  Volunteers need to complete the online form through Teacher Job Network.  The criminal background check takes roughly three weeks to verify and must be resubmitted every three years.  The volunteer needs to provide your organization with an email confirming they have completed their application, and/or an email that they received confirming their background check was approved.  This will provide you with documentation for your organizations records.  Finally, the organization needs to provide me or Mrs. Freeman with a name of the volunteer along with their birthdate. I am trying to keep a working spreadsheet to share with the other administrators that confirms the volunteer’s status.

While volunteers are waiting for their background check to be approved they should not be working on site and specifically with students.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me.
